Director Shankar has opened up on the failure of Indian 2. Speaking during the promotions of his upcoming film Game Changers, the filmmaker said that he did not expect the negative reviews for the Kamal Haasan-starrer, but expressed hope on the third installment Indian 3 which he confirmed will release in theatres.
The action thriller, which was released in July this year, had Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy from the first part which was released in 1996. He starred alongside Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vivek, Bobby Simha, Nedumudi Venu, and Gulshan Grover, among others. Despite its massive scale, the film was received poorly from audience which was followed by incessant trolling on social media. "But that's okay. I’m now focused on delivering better work with Game Changer and Indian 3," he said, in an interview with Vikatan.
